History of RAINBOW RESORT
RAINBOW RESORT was founded by Al and Gladys
Schumann in the late 1950's. Gladys picked the name "Rainbow
Resort" after the beautiful rainbows which would appear on
the lake after a rain.
With the help of family and friends, the resort was built from the ground up. In Al's words "we cut our own lumber to build the lodge and cabins. You didn't go to the store to buy wood back in those days." In 1958, Rainbow Resort opened for business. The resort consisted of four cabins and a log building which was refurbished and used as a lodge.
For eighteen years, friends and neighbors frequently met
at Rainbow Resort lodge. The garden tractor and its trailer
were often seen hauling more kids than garbage. Families
would come back year after year to spend their vacations at
the resort and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature.
In 1976, after eighteen years of operation, Al and Gladys sold the resort. For twenty-one years the resort was owned by non-family members. In March of 1997, the resort was once again purchased by the Schumann family. We welcome you to come and stay with us and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature. We'll have the coffee pot on and share some fishing stories.
